New YouTube series follows Dominic Chinea as he restores his beloved Austin J40 pedal car, in collaboration with Austin Pedal Cars.
We first met Dominic at a Bicester Heritage Scramble back in 2022, he was looking at the Austin J40 pedal cars we had on display, and we had a long chat about how we were reintroducing a full range of parts and accessories for home restorations. We stayed in touch from that day.
Dominic bought his own J40 a few years ago, hanging it on his workshop wall while filming for Repair Shop and his other projects (including relaunching the Ranalah English Wheel) took up most of his time. This meant the pedal car project was relegated to the side-lines. Until now.
As part of a new YouTube series, Dominic has started to restore his Austin pedal car, the first job being a strip down of the car and a blasting of the body. Once the blasting was complete, it revealed a body in need of serious attention, but we won’t spoil your viewing with any more detail…why not watch it for yourself and see what Dom has to work with?
The series will show Dominic undertaking all the work needed to bring the J40 back to life, using parts supplied by Austin Pedal Cars, to create a sensitively restored classic. In a future episode, Dominic will also visit Austin Pedal Cars HQ to see how we manufacture brand new J40 parts. He will also visit our in-house restoration shop and J40 Continuation production area. Stay tuned for that, as it will provide a true behind the scenes look at what we do.
